Call to Artists. Closes August 15, 2024. The City of New Westminster is looking to commission an artist or artist team from a local nation to create public art for a new riverfront park. The riverfront is an important site for many Indigenous communities and is an opportunity to share a deeper understanding of these territories and enrich the experience of the park for residents and visitors. This opportunity is open to local Coast Salish artists from nations with connections to the New Westminster area.
2024 Michif Languages in BC Survey. Closes August 30, 2024. The goal of this survey is to understand the vitality of Michif languages in BC, to better guide the first steps of implementation of Aan Michif Pikishkwaytaak, MNBC’s 10-year Michif language revitalization plan. Your feedback is important to us and we want to understand your needs as it helps us to create effective resources and programs and measure the success of our Michif revitalization plan. The First Nations Technology Council is excited to announce a new partnership with Google on its Google Career Certificate Scholarship Program. These certificates are taught and developed by Google employees with decades of experience in these fields and are hands-on, practical, and rigorous. Learners can earn a certificate in three-to-six months part-time. The partnership will allow 500 current learners and alumni to advance their skills in a chosen field at no cost. AABC Anti-Racism Bursary. This Archives Association of BC bursary covers the registration and textbook costs of one applicant per distance education course offered by the AABC. The bursary applies to the upcoming distance education courses offered during the April 2024 – March 2025 fiscal year, including: “Introduction to Archival Practice” (April 8 – June 17, 2024), “Managing Archival Photographs” (September 9 – November 18, 2024); applications due August 9, 2024, “Managing Plans and Drawings” (January 6 – March 17, 2025).
Survey re: Future of the BC Archives. Closes July 31, 2024. We are seeking your input about the future of the BC Archives. We want to hear from people across British Columbia as we reimagine the provincial archives. The Royal BC Museum is in the midst of an extensive engagement process to collaboratively envision the museum’s future, ensuring it reflects the priorities and perspectives of all people in British Columbia. Your input will help inform the future of the provincial archives, which will be moving to the new PARC Campus (Provincial Archives, Research and Collections) in 2026.
The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) is once again offering their comprehensive online course: “Response Ready? Developing an Emergency Response Plan for Heritage Institutions.” The virtual sessions provide you with an engaged, interactive learning experience centered around objectives and key components of emergency response planning, and you will leave with a solid plan for your own museum, archive or heritage institution. With your help, we can ensure people from all corners of the province feel welcomed, included, and represented through community connections, educational programs, and inclusive, thought-provoking experiences for everyone. Updating our aging facilities and infrastructure is a critical part of reimagining the museum and archives, but so too is the thinking our methods and processes. It’s a significant task. Reimagining the museum requires fiscal responsibility, enormous creativity, and, above all else, an approach that welcomes and includes the perspectives of all people in British Columbia.
