Established in 2007, Splatsin Development Corporation manages the economic interests of the Splatsin First Nations throughout the Secwepemcúl̓ecw (Shuswap). Profits generated through natural resource construction, forestry, environmental, archaeological, culture and heritage and consumer services are invested into the Splatsin Community for the collective benefit of all members. Yucwmenlúcwu (Caretakers of the Land) LLP is a full-service Heritage, Environmental, and Forestry resource management company based in Enderby, BC. We are a subsidiary of the Splatsin Development Corporation, an economic development corporation wholly owned by Splatsin. Our foundation of approach is “Caretakers of the Land.”

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY:

The Splatsin Development Corporation is seeking a Red Seal Carpenter to join their operations. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Red Seal Carpenter will play a crucial role in our diverse portfolio of projects, ranging from small-scale renovations to expansive new constructions. This role demands a highly skilled and versatile individual who can navigate all phases of construction, from foundational work to the final touches.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support and direct carpenters and apprentices in performing residential building and carpentry tasks, including measuring, cutting, and shaping lumber, plywood, and other building materials.
  • Act as the Project Manager for each assigned job, overseeing all aspects from initiation to completion.
  • Assist with the assembly, installation, and repair of structures, frameworks, and fixtures.
  • Manage the inventory of company assets and tools.
  • Follow safety guidelines and consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Communicate effectively with other team members to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Adhere to project timelines and deadlines to ensure work is completed on schedule.
  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and skill development opportunities, particularly in carpentry-related tasks.
  • Conduct regular inspections of tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition and report any issues to management.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored and easily accessible.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other tradespeople to coordinate tasks and ensure project requirements are met.
  • Keep detailed records of work performed, materials used, and any incidents or challenges encountered on the job site.
  • Promptly report any safety concerns or hazards to the management to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices, new techniques, and advancements in carpentry and construction.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven knowledge and experience working with a First Nations organization.
  • Red Seal Certification in a related trade.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a carpenter.
  • Experience in training, coaching, and mentoring carpenters.
  • Skilled in interpreting building designs and blueprints.
  • Comprehensive understanding of both the National Building Code and the British Columbia Building Code.
  • Ability to accurately record and submit apprenticeship hours.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced organizational, prioritization, multitasking, and time management skills.
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal abilities and effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Discretion and respect for confidentiality.

TOTAL REWARDS:

  • Wage Range: $30 – $40/hour, based on skill set and experience.
