Located in the North Thompson valley, at Simpcw Resources Group we provide environmental, management, and operational services while preserving Simpcw culture and heritage with respect towards the environment. Our goals include creating economic growth from the commercial development of natural resources within the Simpcw’ulécw (Simpcw Territory) by being the major contractor and competing for work in both the public and private sectors.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Forestry Manager, the Senior Forestry Technician is responsible for all phases of cutting permit development projects, including conventional, winch-assist and cable systems. They understand bigger picture objectives and project planning, are responsible for crew supervision and assume the important role of communicating with and submitting quality deliverables to the client.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of forestry workers, often in several work locations.
- Field layout, field assessments and data collection.
- Assist in developing and implementing forest management plans, including reforestation and harvesting strategies.
- Ensure forestry activities comply with environmental regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
- Oversee and support various forest operations, including tree planting, thinning, pruning, and harvesting.
- Maintain accurate records of fieldwork, including mapping, measurements, and observations.
- Perform quality control on forest operations to ensure adherence to technical specifications and safety guidelines.
- First Nation and other stakeholder referrals, preparing site plans and harvest plans.
- Coordination and scheduling projects with internal staff.
- Communicating with external clients to meet deliverable deadlines.
- Provide mentoring, training, and coaching to junior and intermediate staff.
- Instruct workers in safety, recognize unsafe work conditions and modify work procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in a natural resource field.
- Extensive experience with multiple aspects of forest management such as silviculture, planning and forest development.
- Registered or able to register with AAFMP and/or Association of BC Forest Professionals (RPF, RFT).
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Physically fit and willing to work in a challenging outdoor environment in all conditions.
- Positive attitude, highly organized, and proven ability to supervise and mentor junior staff members.
- Willingness to work in various locations.
- 5+ years experience in the forest industry.
- Ability to work independently in the outdoors.
- Experience working with First Nations people is valued.
- Knowledge of the Simpcw First Nations community is valued.
