Located in the North Thompson valley, at Simpcw Resources Group we provide environmental, management, and operational services while preserving Simpcw culture and heritage with respect towards the environment. Our goals include creating economic growth from the commercial development of natural resources within the Simpcw’ulécw (Simpcw Territory) by being the major contractor and competing for work in both the public and private sectors.
Current Opportunities:
Simpcw Resources LLP is growing rapidly and looking for a dependable and enthusiastic Summer Students to join our Forestry team. Reporting to the Project Supervisor or Senior staff, the Forestry Summer Student will be responsible for completing a variety of tasks. The ideal candidate will be reliable, reasonably fit, and able to communicate effectively within a safety sensitive environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist senior and professional staff with forestry development.
- Learn and develop skills in road and block engineering, timber reconnaissance, timber cruising, waste and residue surveys, silviculture and wildfire rehabilitation.
- Assist senior and professional staff in all aspects of timber development including but not limited to timber reconnaissance, cut block and road layout, GPS data collection and management, Site Plan data collection, riparian assessments, timber cruising, waste and residue surveys, silviculture surveys and road inspections.
- Participate in other forestry-related projects associated with forest health, wildfire rehabilitation, road deactivation and as other opportunities arise.
- Prioritize safety, recognize unsafe work conditions, and follow work procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current enrollment in a post secondary Natural Resources Program an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license preferred.
- Physically fit and willing to work in a challenging, often remote, outdoor environment in all conditions.
- Ability to work closely with professional staff to collaborate and build strong relationships in a team environment.
- Strong ability to organize, prioritize, multitask, and manage time.
- S100, S185 and Basic First Aid an asset.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working with First Nations people is valued.
- Knowledge of the Simpcw First Nations community is valued.
