Job Summary:

Under the Utilities Supervisor, the Youth Utilities Worker, assists in various tasks related to utility maintenance, including but not limited to, plumbing repairs, and general upkeep of utilities infrastructure. Participate in landscaping and groundskeeping activities to ensure the cleanliness and aesthetics of utility spaces, including dam system. Conduct routine inspections and assessments of utilities infrastructure, identifying any issues or potential hazards, and promptly reporting findings to the supervisor for further action. The Youth Utilities Worker engages with community members in a professional and courteous manner. The Youth Utilities Worker adheres to all safety protocols and procedures while performing duties, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety guidelines outlined by regulatory authorities.

Duties/Responsibilities: Job Responsibilities and Work Performed

  • Assist senior utilities workers in various tasks related to maintaining utilities infrastructure
  • Perform routine inspections of equipment and facilities
  • Assist in repairing and maintaining the water system
  • Help with landscaping and ground maintenance around facilities
  • Provide general assistance in responding to utilities-related emergencies
  • Assist in inventory management of utilities supplies and equipment
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines while carrying out duties

  • Data entry on cellphone and work sheets

Qualifications/Requirements: Minimum Academic/Educational Requirements

  • Grade 10 minimum
  • Specific Job Skills
  • Operation and Control -> Controlling operations of equipment and systems
  • Critical Thinking-> using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to problems encountered.
  • Knowledge of grounds keeping equipment and tools
  • Adequate math computation skills (Trade’s calculation and numeracy) to calculate ratios, percentage, basic measurements, area, perimeters, etc.
  • Excellent time management and efficient performance of duties
  • Able to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions (verbal and written)
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to work well with team members
  • Able to perform heavy lifting, shoveling, and repetitive work as required.
  • Able to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally
  • Minimum Level of Experience
  • Entry level Experience

Assets:

  • Valid Driver’s license an asset
  • Experience operating power tools to support repairs and maintenance to equipment and building repairs.
  • Good physical condition
  • Standard First Aid Certification
  • Ability to perform small repair and maintenance work

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Expected to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, etc.
  • May be exposed to contaminants such as pollutants, chemicals, gases, dust, or odors
  • Exposure to sounds and noises requiring safety equipment.
  • Ability to withstand high physical demands such as prolonged standing, walking, lifting, and working for prolonged periods with equipment, etc.

* Working environment and safety protocols of the highest caliber, working with face masks worn when necessary.
