Overview
Adams Lake Indian Band Fire Department is seeking two Summer Student Workers to join their team. Under the direction of the Fire Chief, Firefighters ensures the delivery of quality fire protection, rescue, prevention & inspection services for ALIB and the contracted protection area. Firefighters ensure that the activities of ALIB Fire/Rescue (GFFR) are aligned with Band and Departmental visions, goals and objectives, as well the community’s culture & values. This role requires active involvement in day-to-day operations and emergency situations, including the functions of fire suppression, fire prevention, public education, medical aid and rescue services. The summer student position would participate in and learn from these day to day operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration
• Direct day-to-day operations of ALIB FD in accordance with its policies, plans & procedures, including the functions of fire suppression, fire prevention, public education, medical aid and rescue services.
• Maintain Operational Guidelines in accordance with Fire Services Act, BC Fire Code Regulations, and bylaws & policies of ALIB.
• Assist in ensuring records are maintained of fires, injuries & loss of property.
• Assist in coordinating with other agencies with respect to operational duties outlined in this document. Agencies include but are not limited to: Office of Fire Commissioner, BC Wildfire Service, BC Fire Chief’s Association, BC Training Officer’s Association, Fire Prevention Officers of BC, BC Emergency Health Services (BC Ambulance Service), Search & Rescue, Canadian Association of Fire Chief’s Volunteer Firefighter’s Association & RCMP.
Operations
• Respond to fires & other emergency incidents, including first response to medical emergencies.
• Liaise with representatives from BC Forest Service to ensure adequate arrangements are made for controlling major fires.
• Ensure all firefighters follow pertinent Operational Guidelines.
Staff & Training
• Promote high level of morale among fire fighters.
• Attend training sessions throughout the year.
• Other duties as required.

• Interest in all aspects of fire fighting, rescue, emergency management
• Ability to adapt to changing demands & priorities
• Demonstrated ability to speak & write clearly

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Maintain level of physical fitness to continuously perform all duties required in this position including but not limited to excellent cardiovascular fitness, bending, lifting & carrying as required
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Location: Chase, IR #4. The majority of the work is performed on the front lines, but administrative requirements will be performed in a typical office environment.
EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs including Word, Excel & Outlook, Operational databases
***Equipment Provided: Steel Toe Boots
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Be able to work in differing weather conditions
• Be able to safely work around and with heavy machinery
• Eligible participants must be of Indigenous ancestry
• Must have a Social Insurance Number and be at least 15 years of age
• Must meet ASETS criteria for referral (Referral required before interview)
• Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance, with results acceptable to ALIB (provided at no cost to the individual)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Fixed term position 8 weeks: July 7, 2025 to August 29, 2025
Wage offered will be: $19.14 per hour
Hours per week: 37.5 – 40, with some flexibility in hours/days of work
Competition closes June 9th, 2025 at midnight, Pacific Time.
