The Institute for the Moving Image is a new year-round artist development initiative from VIFF supporting bold, original filmmakers and screen creatives in British Columbia and across Canada. Rooted in equity, access and representation, the Institute offers mentorships, meaningful industry connections, and community engagement for filmmakers at pivotal stages of their careers. Closes May 4, 2026.

Vancouver Book Award. The City of Vancouver and the West Coast Book Prizes Society are now accepting submissions for the 2026 City of Vancouver Book Award. Authors and publishers of books published in 2025 that reflect Vancouver’s unique character, rich diversity and culture, history and residents are invited to submit entries. Submission deadline is May 12, 2026.

UBC Summer Science Program for Indigenous students entering grades 9-12 in September 2026. The program hopes to inspire an interest in pursuing post-secondary programs in health and sciences fields. The program is situated on traditional Musqueam territory (Vancouver), with most programming taking place in the First Nations House of Learning on UBC campus. The camp organizes workshops in drum-making, medicine bag crafting, a virtual reality medicine lab, and more! Camp Elders organize Talking Circles and students have the opportunity to explore campus, learn about university, make friends, and connect with Indigenous mentors. Apply by June 15, 2026.

Canadian Arts Management + Governance Incubator. Thisprogram is a free online workshop series open to emerging and aspiring Canadian arts sector workers and board members connected to groups or organizations with annual budgets under $1 million. This workshop series is ideal for people working as or aspiring to be paid staff or volunteer board members in small- to medium-sized arts organizations. This series is targeted to the visual and media arts, but will accept participants from other arts disciplines. Zoom-based workshops running eight Wednesdays from May to August, 2026 (3 pm – 5:30 pm EST).

Join the BCMA for Book Club! Over seven sessions, participants will read through From Stealing to Healing: Repatriation and B.C. First Nations and the From Stealing to Healing: Repatriation Cost Analysis Report alongside BCMA team members, Lorenda and Leia. The purpose of this series of online discussions is to support cultural heritage professionals’ decolonization efforts and to utilize existing resources. Education on topics and histories resulting from colonialism is critical if the sector is to move forward in reconciliation.
