Public Works Labourer II – Full Time

About this Opportunity
The Public Works Labourer II is responsible for performing the daily tasks required to assist in all aspects of outside maintenance operations, which includes: roads, drainage, landscape, cemetery maintenance & projects, snow removal, fleet and grounds maintenance, carpentry, heavy equipment operation as directed.

· Performs manual labour duties as part of the department’s landscape and infrastructure maintenance activities and to assist fellow crewmembers to ensure economical, cost-effective, and efficient use of resources.
· Operation and maintenance of equipment and power tools such as skid steer, tractor, mini-excavator, dump truck, tamper, power rake, aerator, top dresser, lawn mower, weed-eater, cement mixer, pressure washer, saws, drills and miscellaneous hand tools.
· Performs a variety of maintenance tasks related to roads, bus stops, drainage systems, landscape projects and grounds maintenance, carpentry and new asset construction.
· Ability to work flexible hours, including shift work, overtime and emergency call outs.
· Performs minor repairs and assists with assembly, removal and adjustments of attachments to various pieces of equipment and fixtures.
· Arranges for traffic control, the placement of barricades and warning lights around work projects in high and low traffic situations and adverse weather conditions.
· Completes assigned tasks on time and on budget.
· Considers, prioritizes and acts on the needs of both internal and external Clients.
Must Haves:
High school diploma or equivalent
2-3 years experience in a civil or industrial construction and/or maintenance environment
2-3 years experience working with hand tools, power tools and/or heavy equipment
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and an annual driver’s abstract in excellent standing which is to be submitted annually
Occupational First Aid Level I
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
