Position Title: Early Childhood Education (ECE) Practicum Student
Reporting to: Daycare Manager
Status: Temporary – Paid practicum (up to 500 hours), with possibility of long-term employment upon completion
Wage: $21/hour
Location: Sk’atsin Child Care Centre – Chase, BC
Start Date: July 2025

Job Summary:

Sk’atsin Child Care Centre is inviting applications from Early Childhood Education (ECE) students seeking to complete their 500-hour practicum toward certification. This paid practicum opportunity offers hands-on experience in a culturally rich, land-based learning environment under the guidance of certified educators and a supportive team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and implementing daily programming that supports all areas of child development
  • Support children in play, transitions, meals, rest time, and daily routines
  • Engage respectfully with children and families while modeling positive guidance strategies
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and culturally affirming learning space
  • Participate in classroom setup, activity facilitation, and basic cleaning/sanitizing duties
  • Observe and reflect on ECE practices as part of your learning journey
  • Follow direction from supervising educators and meet practicum documentation requirements

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a recognized Early Childhood Education program
  • Must be eligible to complete a 500-hour practicum
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and learn in a fast-paced childcare setting
  • Commitment to upholding inclusive, respectful, and trauma-informed practices
  • Clear criminal record check (including vulnerable sector clearance) required upon hiring
  • First Aid & CPR (Child Care level) is an asset

Assets:

  • Interest in Indigenous education, land-based learning, and cultural safety
  • Open to mentorship, self-reflection, and professional growth
  • Ability to speak or understand Secwepemctsín or another Indigenous language is a strong asset (not required)
