Forestry Labourer

Located in the North Thompson valley, at Simpcw Resources Group we provide environmental, management, and operational services while preserving Simpcw culture and heritage with respect towards the environment. Our goals include creating economic growth from the commercial development of natural resources within the Simpcw’ulécw (Simpcw Territory) by being the major contractor and competing for work in both the public and private sectors.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Project Supervisor or SRLLP designate, the Forestry Labourer will be responsible for completing a variety of tasks that align with project specific field level projects. The ideal candidate will be reliable, physically fit, and able to communicate effectively within a safety sensitive environment.

Responsibilities:

•    Complete multiple scopes of work, including but not limited to, brushing, grass seeding, wildfire risk reduction, debris pile burning, road inspections, signage, bridge maintenance, culvert delivery and/or other field level projects.
•    Complete danger tree assessments and danger tree falling.
•    Assist with road construction, deactivation, and rehabilitation.
•    Assist with harvest supervision.
•    Assist with wildfire suppression activities.
•    Maintain equipment/tool cache (Brush saws, chainsaws, fire pumps, etc.).
•    Prioritize safety, recognize unsafe work conditions, and follow work procedures.
•    Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

•    Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
•    Physically fit and willing to work in a challenging outdoor environment in all conditions.
•    Ability to work closely with professional staff to collaborate and build strong relationships in a team environment.
•    Strong ability to organize, prioritize, multitask, and manage time.
•    S100, S185 and Basic First Aid an asset.
•    Strong oral and written communication skills.
•    Experience working with First Nations people is valued.
•    Knowledge of the Simpcw First Nations community is valued.
