About this Opportunity

The Heritage Collections Manager, reporting to the Sncəwips Operations and Cultural Administrator, is responsible for administering, maintaining, and keeping all records related to collection items owned or on-loan to Westbank First Nation and the Sncəwips Heritage Museum according to best museum practices and the Sncəwips Museum Policy.

  • Maintain records of accession, condition acquisitions, ownership, loaning, and disposal of all WFN collections; Maintains a record of the location of WFN collections
  • Maintain and records movement of WFN collection items; Conducts consistent condition reports of all WFN collection items.
  • Make recommendations to ensure care is being provided to all items according to best museum practices
  • Maintain and work to build the museum Reference Library, Archives and Sensitive Materials collections
  • Assist with museum administrative duties, including but not limited to: answering phones, ordering supplies, public relations, and keeping an organized workspace, etc.
  • Maintain best museum practices in regards to display and installation, storage of items, preservation, and transportation to conform to insurance regulations
  • Assess all risk management in determining possible concerns regarding the management of WFN collection items including, but not limited to: vandalism, theft, pests, emergencies, and natural disasters

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in at least one of the following: Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, History, Education, Arts, Social Sciences, Cultural Studies required
  • Certification in Collections Management required
  • 2 years working experience and knowledge about Indigenous communities and organizations including hands-on experience in a museum setting
  • Acceptable Criminal Record check required

The minimum starting salary for this position is $51,802
