About this Opportunity

Under the direction of the Sensisyusten Principal, the Learning Support Supervisor/Teacher will oversee the Certified Education Assistants in the development, planning, and scheduling of student supports and programming. This position will also be working collaboratively with the classroom teachers, and the Sensisyusten School Counsellor. In consultation with classroom teachers and in alignment with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and student SMART Goals, the Learning Support Supervisor/Teacher will provide intervention strategies and additional programming for students identified as requiring extra support. The main focus of the program is to provide positive, holistic, inclusive, culturally appropriate practices that include students and families at the center.

  • Provide direct supervision to the certified education assistant (CEA’s)
  • Provide teachers and CEA’s specific strategies and interventions relating to behavioral and social skill development that will enable students with diverse needs to be successful in an inclusive setting.
  • Provide direct instruction and tutorial support to individuals and small groups of pupils who require intensive help, through observation, assessment and direct teaching which may include using valid, widely used standardized tests and/or well-known non-standardized measures as deemed necessary by SBT.
  • Lead Team Based’ discussion between teachers, principal, and parents to attend to individual students that show severe learning difficulties. IEPs or SMART GOALS will be created and may obtain strategies for assisting in the students emotional and social development
  • Make recommendations to proceed with formal Assessments to determine learning strengths and weaknesses along with suggested strategies that teachers can use in the classroom to help the student reach his/her potential; or, by a speech/language pathologist to determine whether a child requires therapy for language or articulation.
  • Advise and deliver trainings to other members of staff on the full range of learning strategies, methods and resources.

Must Haves:

  • Master’s Degree or post graduate diploma in Special Education /Inclusive Education
  • Current Special Education practises and qualifications
  • Experience in differentiating and providing inclusive learning opportunities that reflect the unique needs and interests of all the students
  • Experience developing programs with strategies appropriate for students with learning and behavioural characteristics as a result of neurological disorders such as ASD and FASD.
  • Classroom teaching, or full-time teaching experience within a public or private school system. Minimum 5 years

The median salary for this position is $82,094
