THE COMPANY:
The Splatsin are the most southern tribe of the Shuswap Nation, the largest Interior Salish speaking First Nation in Canada whose aboriginal territory stretches from the BC/Alberta border near the Yellowhead Pass to the plateau west of the Fraser River, southeast to the Arrow Lakes and to the upper reaches of the Columbia River.  Shihiya School has been owned and operated by Splatsin since 1980. The preschool through grade seven curriculum follows that of the Province of B.C. in addition to the integration of Splatsin language and culture into learning. The school is Certified by the First Nations Schools Association (FNSA) every five years and is federally funded by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).

THE OPPORTUNITY:
Shihiya School is currently recruiting a Part-Time Secretary to join their team of professionals. Reporting to the Head Teacher, the secretary will be responsible for a variety of duties including, but not limited to, answering and directing calls to the appropriate staff, receiving and greeting visitors, filing, photo copying, data entry and computer work, and assisting school staff as required.

  • Knowledge of Splatsin community and Secwepemc culture an asset
  • Ability to work with diverse backgrounds & levels of ability
  • Advocate in the best interest of the student/family-guardian
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Willing to participate in job related workshops, courses, or training to further skills
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Overtime may be required
