THE ORGANIZATION:

 The Splatsin (pronounced splat-seen) people reside on Indian reserve lands adjacent to the City of Enderby to the south and across the Shuswap River to the east. The Splatsin are the southernmost tribe of the Secwépemc Nation, the largest Interior Salish speaking First Nation in Canada. Our aboriginal territory stretches from the B.C./Alberta border near the Yellowhead Pass to the plateau west of the Fraser River, southeast to the Arrow Lakes and to the upper reaches of the Columbia River.

 THE OPPORTUNITY:

 Splatsin Stsmamlt Services is a team of social workers and family support workers who are responsible for carrying out the community’s child and family services program. We are currently recruiting a full-time qualified Specialized Youth Social Worker to join our team of professionals.

The purpose of this position is to provide guardianship support to a small number of youth experiencing complex mental health, behavioural and support challenges that require a heightened level of supervision, support, and specialized services. Support will be delivered by utilizing harm-reduction, trauma-informed, and person-centered approaches.

DUTIES:

  • Providing skilled intervention and case management support services to youth with complex support needs.
  • Developing and implementing a plan of care in collaboration with any relevant multidisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Integrating Secwepemc/Splatsin culture and values into day-to-day practice.
  • Effectively managing relationships with the community-based agencies, crisis intervention and health related professionals as part of team as part of a continuum of care.
  • Completing risk assessment and safety plans.
  • Providing after hours response and support.

CORE COMPENTENCIES:

  • Sensitivity to the historical and systemic impacts on indigenous families and communities from intergenerational trauma due to colonialism, residential school history, the sixties scoop, and association with the child welfare system.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn the traditional practices and teachings of the Secwepemc communities.
  • Ability to manage crisis and crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach to problem-solving with excellent decision-making ability.
  • Applied knowledge of child-centered, trauma informed practice.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively assess risk and complex family situations.
  • Discretion and respect for confidentiality

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, related degree, or equivalent.

PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Experience working with at-risk youth and/or people who have a mental health diagnosis and/or behavioural needs.
  • Understanding of Trauma Informed Care.
  • ASIST Training.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIRMENTS:

  • Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driving abstract.
  • Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Valid First Aid Certification.

SALARY: $66,320.80 to $75,803.00 annually, based on qualifications and experience.
