- Endangered Language Program’s 2024 Language Documentation Training Webinar Series. These webinars are co-hosted by the Endangered Languages Project (www.endangeredlanguages.com) and the Language Documentation Training Center at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (www.ldtc.org). Language documentation, or making good records of your language, can be an important part of strengthening your language. You’ll learn the basics of how to record good-quality audio and video, ways to look deeper at your language’s sounds and grammar, and tips for working with language materials – and you’ll get to connect with other people around the world doing this work. No previous experience or training is needed – we’ll start from the beginning! We look forward to learning with you this year.
- Safeguarding Your Language Through Documentation. 2024. Written Aiyana Twigg for the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, this toolkit is for Indigenous language learners, Knowledge Holders, youth, and anyone else who wants to contribute to the work of Indigenous language documentation and revitalization. Designed for people without formal training in linguistics, documentation or technology, it is an easy-to-use guide to equipment options, ethical considerations, how to set up a recording session, content considerations, elicitation strategies and more.
- Reconciliation Toolkit for Non-Indigenous Archives in Canada. The Canadian Council of Archives, Archives Advisory Services Working Group is pleased to announce that the Reconciliation Toolkit for Non-Indigenous Archives in Canada is now available. The toolkit can be found at this link: https://archivescanada.ca/toolkit/. This Toolkit was made possible thanks to the support of the Council of Provincial and Territorial Archivists.

In our latest episode, Eric Pelkey talks about the history of reef net fishing within the W̱SÁNEĆ community.Reef nets are a system given to us by XÁLS to fish in a way where we only take what we need. They also represent familial ties and connections to many family reef net sites, not just from Saanich but also in cousin nations like Lummi. Today, Eric Pelkey hopes the passing on of knowledge to the next generation will keep the practice alive and well

- Northeast Documentation Centre: Ready or not: Disaster Preparedness for Community Archives. NEDCC’s “Ready – Or Not” project funded by the California State Library conducts emergency preparedness assessments of California organizations stewarding cultural resources. Following each visit, the project delivers a report with recommendations for mitigating risks, taking emergency preparedness actions, and completing a disaster plan, ensuring that California’s cultural heritage is preserved in the future. 10 short videos on this playlist.

The Global Task Force for Making a Decade of Action for Indigenous Languages was officially launched by UNESCO with participation of Member States, indigenous peoples’ organizations, three-party United Nations mechanisms, the United Nations Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
