THE OPPORTUNITY: 

Highbridge is pleased to be supporting the Splatsin Health Centre as they search for a positive, driven, and organized individual to join their team Community Nurse. As a Community Nurse, you will work as a member of the Splatsin Health Centre team to provide health services in office and members home as well.  You will support community members with various life skills, and coping skills that they can apply to their specific situations. As the Community Nurse you will plan, organize in joint home visits with community members and their families to identify their health issues and their health-related needs. You will help members to select services and activities for positive health changes
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Home visits (Visit members at their home after released from hospital care, or in the hospital when its appropriate. Visit new parents or pregnant moms.
  • Visit elders, especially who they the live alone to identify their needs and make recommendations to the Home Care Nurse or refer them to the Nurse Practitioner
  • Organize workshops and promote healthy living for the community members with local sources (other community nurses on diabetes education, with pharmacist on information on medications, on healthy food choices, exercise ideas to avoid obesity, perhaps provide easy healthy recipes)
  • Organize health related community events.
  • Visit the local school on the reserve to provide Lice check, sexual health education, including prevention, STD information, recreational drug use education
  • Organize workshops, home visits to new parents or pregnant moms. (Provide education on safe sleep for babies, smoking in the house, breastfeeding education, healthy food choice for babies, new moms, and pregnant moms.)
  • Organize vaccinations for babies, kids, and for adults.
  • Order supplies
  • Develop Community Health Work Plans
  • Report to the Health Director and or the Home Care Nurse Team Leader and provide monthly reports on work activities

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Current CRNBC registration
  • Valid Class 5 driver licence
  • Clean driving record
  • Current criminal record with Vulnerable Sector
  • CPR Level C Certification
  • Immunization Certificate
  • References
  • Proficient computer skills, Excellent client care skills, Superior oral and written communication skills, strong ability to organize, prioritize and manage time, physically able to perform the duties of the position, liaising with physicians, hospitals, social workers, and other community services agencies. Reliable vehicle with a proper insurance for work. Ability to work within nursing scope of practice and according to all applicable regulations. Experience working with First Nations people a plus.

WHAT WE PROVIDE;

  • This is a full time Monday to Friday position from 8.30 to 4.30 pm
  • Benefits after 3-month probation period
  • Competitive experience-based pay starting from $45/hour
