imagineNATIVE Originals Short Film Commission. Closes August 13, 2026. This program offers four separate opportunities for Indigenous filmmakers to develop and produce an original short film commissioned by imagineNATIVE to premiere at the 2027 imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival. Applicants are selected based on the strength of their overall application, including their film treatment, visual reference lookbook, writing sample and/or script, production schedule, budget, and project feasibility. Participants will also receive access to workshops, equipment, and mentorship through their partner organization while developing a 5 to 10 minute short film.
New Commons Incubator for Indigenous Languages and Cultures. Closes August 15, 2026. The Incubator is a capacity building program led by the Open Data Policy Lab that aims to unlock data commons for public-interest AI. The Incubator addresses a critical issue: the limited access to diverse and high-quality datasets, which is essential for AI to reach its full potential. The Incubator is managed and facilitated by the Program Team, made up of The GovLab at NYU, UNESCO, and Microsoft. Information webinar on August 6, 2026.
TOSH Kellett Art Prize & Exhibition. Submissions open until September 30, 2026. This is a new juried exhibition celebrating the exceptional work being made on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and Haida Gwaii. We are inviting artists from across the region to submit their finest wall-mounted work for consideration by a distinguished panel of judges. This is an open competition with CASH AWARDS and a public exhibition in March 2027. The top prize is $1,500, and there are 5 further prizes of $500. Whether you are an emerging artist or have been working for decades, we want to see what you are making.
Apply now for Canadian Conservation Institute’s X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry services! XRF spectrometers can be used to: determine the metal composition of heritage objects for common metals like iron, copper and aluminum, determine the grades of precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum, as well as sculptural bronze, detect low levels of environmental pollutants, including lead, arsenic and mercury, identify pigment elemental compositions, group fragments of objects from different locations together and determine the composition of glass. We offer two services: 1) Full XRF spectrometry service: One of our conservation scientists will visit your site, for up to three days, to help you set up your analyses and provide a report on the results (includes optional training to become a certified XRF spectrometer operator). 2) XRF spectrometer loan service: Already certified? Borrow one of our spectrometers for up to a month! Free for eligible clients (shipping not included). Closes October 15, 2026.
Partnership Development Grants: November 2026 Competition. (federal). Closes November 16, 2026. These grants provide support over one to three years to teams/partnerships, led by an applicant / project director, to 1) develop research and/or related activities in the social sciences and humanities—these can include knowledge mobilization and the meaningful involvement of students and emerging scholars—by fostering new partnerships with existing and/or potential partners; or 2) design and test new partnership approaches for research and/or related activities that can result in best practices or models—these can either be adapted by others or have the potential to be scaled up to a regional, national or international level.
Work-Sharing Program (federal). This program helps employers and employees avoid layoffs when: there is a temporary decrease in the normal level of business activity, and the decrease is beyond the control of the employer. The agreement provides income support to employees eligible for Employment Insurance benefits who work a temporarily reduced work week while their employer recovers. All employees participating in the agreement must experience a minimum 10% reduction to their normal weekly earnings to comply with the terms of the agreement. A Work-Sharing agreement is a three-party agreement involving employers, employees and Service Canada.

Métis Heritage Presentation. Join the Amelia Douglas Institute’s talented storytellers for these virtual presentations on captivating aspects of Métis culture, heritage, and art. These bookable sessions are an opportunity for anyone to learn more about the Métis people – not as a lecture but as a story. You’ll see and hear our heritage, arts, and culture and, we hope, take them into your heart. In some cases, we can be available to deliver these presentations in person.
