Museums and archives worldwide have come under increasing criticism for their adherence to energy-intensive climate guidelines that were created long before climate change and its causes were recognized. By 2020, many in the museum and archive community were re-examining their old climate control assumptions and asking for better advice from the experts. The Climate guidelines resource is the Canadian Conservation Institute’s (CCI’s) answer.

- The Gendered Burden of Cultural Continuity. Talk by Interdisciplinary artist and Chilkat weaver Ursala Kadusné Hudson. August 28, 2025. The lecture will explore the often invisible labor of cultural survival carried by historically female-gendered Indigenous art forms such as weaving, sewing and beading. Drawing from her lived experience and research, Hudson will examine how these practices are foundational to Indigenous sovereignty, memory and resilience. Themes of the presentation include the patriarchal valuation of “fine art” over “craft,” Indigenous feminist theories of rematriation and the role of intergenerational care in art making.
